Hailing from Monte Abraão, on the outskirts of Lisbon, NegoO developed a passion for music at an early age. Fascinated by the many types of percussion and surrounded by numerous other promising producers, he started producing his first tracks at the age of 17, embracing Batida and sharing his work on Soundcloud and Bandcamp. Over time, he developed his skills and repertoire and eventually made his way to Paris, a city which had a significant impact on his music. Chance encounters with the French capital’s many producers profoundly inspired him, de facto deepening his desire to pursue a musical career. NegoO subsequently joined Jet Life Paris, a collective of multidisciplinary artists creating music and throwing underground events. Through this collaboration, he was able to perform on several stages, namely Moonshine’s; this opportunity led him to be showcased on Moonshine’s SMS For location vol.5 compilation, as the producer and performer of Na cabeça. To date, many see NegoO as a key player in Batida’s future.
Thanks to the hype he generated at Moonshine and the notable inclusion of one of his tracks on the SMS For Location vol.5 compilation, NegoO was a logical choice to showcase the Montréal Afrocentric collective’s fevered rhythms and irresistible grooves at MUTEK, as a North American premiere no less.

More
Batida, which roughly translates to “beat/rhythm”, is a style of electronic music associated with Lisbon’s Afrodiasporic DJs, first- or second-generation immigrants of Portugal’s former colonies (Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Verde, São Tomé e Príncipe…). The music draws inspiration from African rhythms such as Kuduro, Zouk, Batucada, Kizomba, Tarraxinha and House.
